McKie House

Built
in 1915 at the cost of 425.00 pounds.
It sits on 1/4 acre of land with adjoining 1/4 acre as the vegetable garden and orchard (apple & pear). Old fashion roses, flower gardens & hedges complete the garden setting.

James (Jim) McKie had the house built by Mr Wilson of Rangiora and  has been owned by the same family since 1915. The house is timber with iron roof with no major modifications done except for the laundry being incorporated into the house several years ago.

Jim McKie planted several deciduous trees and conifers on the property and was also responsible for planting many of the larger trees in the Domain, Sports Reserve & Memorial.

The Tekoa Street trees planted about the late 1940's and early 1950's were also planted by Jim McKie.
